Apicoectomy or endodontic surgery is used to save teeth when traditional root canal therapy is not an option. Apicoectomy is a procedure where the endodontist goes through the patient’s gums to expose any infection in the bone and roots of a tooth that wouldn’t be suitable for traditional root canal therapy. Once the diseased tissue is removed through the gum, a small filling is inserted into the root-end to seal the tooth’s root. The gum is relaid and sutured down to allow the tissue to heal properly.
